MY ROLE

Guiding a team of three through a 36 hours hackathon involves leading the design journey, ideating, prioritizing design directions, and orchestrating end-to-end app design.

HOW TO ACE WITH NO PLAN?

Stepping into the 36-hour Hackathon, we found ourselves utterly idea-less in the vast landscape of healthcare challenges.

Our cunning plan? - Devote half of our time to gallivanting through the realms of research and learning, hoping to stumble upon a golden nugget amidst the chaos of the ever-expanding healthcare universe.

TOO MANY IDEAS IS PROBLEMATIC

Having conversations with 5 of our targeted users, aged 65 and above, about their airport experiences provided us with valuable insights into the specific pain points/ needs they encounter.

OUR STRATEGY?

With time ticking away, couldn't tackle the general problems. Instead, we shifted gears to focus on researching specific diseases and conditions. This way, we already know our targeted users and their needs.

BE THE FIRST, NOT THE BEST

After scouring symptoms and potential app ideas for chronic conditions, we've set our sights on menopause — the underrated underdog of healthcare! With over 3 million cases in the US and over 20 million worldwide.

The strategy worked!

INTERVIEW THE “SMOKIN' HOT LADIES”

In no time, we interviewed 10 ladies aged 45 and above to discuss their symptoms and desires during their experiences.

By "smoking hot," I mean they were experiencing hot flushes, a common symptom in our research.

WE FOUND OURSELVES IN DISAGREEMENT

In a time crunch with only 16 hours to prototype and test the app, feature selection sparked heated debates.

While my teammate aimed to cram every possible feature,
I advocated for prioritizing 1-2 key functionalities.

After a lengthy back-and-forth, we settled on listing 5 features and decided to focus on just 2 of them.

WHAT MAKES US VALUEBLE?

We aggregated research, interviews, and testing of all existing apps, defining opportunities to further assist users.

TIME IS UP

That night, I poured my heart and soul into designing the UI for 6 straight hours. Though I usually test the product at this stage, time is not on our side.

We're scrambling to finish the hi-fi and prep for tomorrow's presentation.

MOMENT OF TRUTH

Menocare proudly snagged 2nd place among 16 fierce teams crafting apps for healthcare and wellness.

Thanks to Tufts Producthon, I've honed my time-juggling and design prioritization skills under pressure.

This opportunity allowed me to collaborate and address a meaningful problem, for which I'm truly grateful.

IF WE HAD A WEEK-LONG HACKATHON

I am eager to:

-
Refine the analytic feature to provide users with deeper insights into their progress.

- Conduct comprehensive user testing to gather valuable feedback on functionality and usability.

- Iterate on the design based on user feedback to enhance overall usability and user experience.

- Explore potential collaborations with healthcare professionals to enhance the app's effectiveness and value against menopause.

Thank you for your time :)
